Backups in your office. A copy in the cloud.

A backup appliance sits in your office next to your servers. Your servers stay where they are; they back up to the appliance as often as every 15 minutes, and a copy goes to our secure cloud. Everyday restores come from the appliance. If the office goes down, we run your systems in the cloud.

Recovery racesame failure, two paths
Monday · 8:33 AM

You arrive at work and the server won’t start.

Let’s compare the downtime, and how long each approach takes to get your office back up and running.

Traditional backupTime spent0 min
vs.
Continuity VaultTime spent0 min

You rack your brain for where you left your latest backup.

Hopefully it’s somewhere safe, and hopefully it’s recent.

1

Backed up and watched, all along.

Your servers are backed up as often as every 15 minutes, to the appliance in your office and to the cloud. Our team is alerted if a backup ever fails.

Order a new server to restore your data to.

This can take a while, especially when the hardware has to be shipped.

2

Pick up to the last 15-minute snapshot of your office.

The latest backup is test-booted every night, so you know your recovery will start.

After your server arrives, it needs to be set up.

That means reinstalling the operating system, then the backup software that made the copy.

3

After a short wait, your office is up and running again, even if the server fire isn’t out yet.

In around 2 hours, your servers are virtualized on the appliance or in the cloud, and your team carries on from there.

When the server is ready, it’s time to attempt the restore.

Restoring an entire system after a failure takes a lot of time, and more than normal expertise.

4

Your team is back at work.

Work carries on while the failed server is replaced.

Chances are, there were errors during the restore.

Time to troubleshoot the error logs, a lengthy and frustrating process.

Why a vaultthe stakes

Downtime doesn’t wait for a good time. Neither should your recovery.

A failed server is only one way a bad day starts. The Vault also covers ransomware, disasters and attacks on the backups themselves.

An untested backup is a guess. Backups are test-booted automatically, on a schedule.

Hardware fails
A server dies in the middle of payroll. Days rebuilding from scratch
Run a virtual copy on the appliance or in the cloud while it’s replaced
VMvirtual copy
Ransomware strikes
Files lock up at 2 a.m. behind a ransom note. Backups can be encrypted too
Restore from a recovery point before the attack

Disaster or fire
Fire takes the office. Weeks without your systems

Backups targeted

FAQbefore you ask

Questions, answered.

Choosing a setup, getting started, recovery and billing.

Choosing a plan
Which setup do I need?
Choose on-site appliance + cloud if you run servers in your office: everyday restores come from the appliance, and the cloud copy covers a disaster. Choose cloud only if you have just a few servers, your servers already run in the cloud, or you want to back up laptops for remote staff. The appliance plan protects servers; to back up workstations and laptops as well, add them with cloud only.
What can you back up?
Windows and Linux servers, Windows workstations and laptops, VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines, and Azure virtual machines. On macOS, we back up files and folders.
How do I choose the appliance size?
By how much data your servers hold. Each size is the appliance’s on-site storage: 2, 4, 8, 24, 40 or 60 TB. Pick the one that holds your data with room to grow.
We already use Microsoft 365. Do we still need a backup?
Continuity Vault backs up your servers and workstations. Microsoft 365 email and files are not part of this service; they are backed up by a separate service.
Getting started
What happens after I order?
We contact you to schedule setup. For the appliance plan, we provide and configure the appliance, install the backup agent on your servers and run the first backup. For cloud only, we install the agent on each server or workstation.
What does setup cost?
Appliance plans have a one-time online configuration fee per appliance, from $3,600 to $20,600 depending on size. Cloud only has a one-time configuration fee of $3,500.
Protection & recovery
How often are backups taken?
Servers can be backed up as often as every 15 minutes, so you can restore to a recent point in time.
How do I know the backups will work?
AutoVerify automatically test-boots your backups and checks them for corruption: every day on the appliance plan, and every week for servers (twice a week for workstations) on cloud only. Each recovery point is independent, so one damaged backup doesn’t affect the others. Our team watches the results and follows up when something fails.
Can ransomware delete my backups?
Backups are stored as recovery points that can’t be changed, and AirGap protects them from malicious or accidental deletion. If an attacker deletes backups, they can still be recovered.
How long are backups kept?
Retention is set by policy. We configure how many hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly recovery points are kept on the appliance and in the cloud, based on your needs and storage. Backup is not an archive or legal-hold service; if you must keep records for a set number of years, tell us during setup.
How fast can we recover?
With the on-site appliance, your systems can typically be running again in about two hours, because recovery happens locally. With cloud only, we can run your systems in our cloud with Virtual Office while your servers are repaired; moving everything back to your office takes longer, because the data comes over the internet. With traditional backup, a full recovery can take days or weeks.
Can we test our recovery before we need it?
Yes. With Virtual Office we can start your systems in our cloud as a test, without a disaster, and confirm they run. Ask us to schedule one; the results also help with cyber insurance and compliance questions.
What happens in a disaster?
If a server or your office goes down, we run your systems as virtual machines in our cloud with Virtual Office, so your team can keep working while yours are repaired. On appliance plans, the service order form lists a Declared Disaster Incident fee of $3,600 to $20,600 per appliance, depending on size.
Billing
How is the appliance plan priced?
A monthly NAS device rental ($450 to $950, by size), a one-time online configuration fee per appliance ($3,600 to $20,600, by size), and online storage at $1.30 per GB per month, based on actual usage.
Who owns the appliance?
The appliance is rented as part of your plan. eMazzanti provides it, sets it up and manages it for you.
What happens if I cancel?
When the service ends, the cloud copy of your backups is deleted. Plan to restore or move any data you need before your service ends.
Is cloud storage extra?
On the appliance plan, online storage is $1.30 per GB per month, billed on actual usage. Cloud only includes up to 3 TB per server and 500 GB per workstation; anything above that is $1.30 per GB per month.
Can I add devices later?
Yes. Add servers or workstations at any time, at the same per-device price.
